Jr. Bobcats win crown

BLENHEIM – The Blenheim Bobcats beat the Lambton-Kent Cardinals 46-23 in the LKSSAA ‘A’ junior boys’ basketball final Thursday.

Blake Tinline scored 18 points and Preston Allen added eight for the Bobcats, who led 16-6, 24-13 and 26-18 at the quarters.

Shane Logan scored eight for the Cardinals and Ethan Clark had four.

Basketball playoffs

The Ursuline Lancers will visit the top-seeded Northern Vikings in the LKSSAA ‘AAA’ senior boys’ basketball final at 6 p.m. Saturday for the second straight year.

The Vikings are the defending champions.

Ursuline beat St. Patrick’s 57-51 in a semifinal Thursday, while Ethan Jordan scored 12 for Chatham-Kent in a 76-37 loss to Northern.

Ursuline will visit Northern in the ‘AAA’ junior final at 4 p.m. Saturday.

On Thursday, McGregor lost to Lambton Central 45-40 in a ‘AA’ senior semifinal.

In the ‘A’ senior semifinals, Tyler Warwick scored 13 points, Ethan Guenther added 12 and Henry Roberts had 10 for the Blenheim Bobcats in a 59-34 win over Lambton-Kent.

Jacob Alderdice led the Cardinals with nine points and Carter Covemaeker had eight.

Dylan Fawler’s 13 points led the Tilbury Titans past the Ridgetown Royals 42-37. Connor Sloan scored 18 for the Royals.

The teams were tied 16-16 at halftime. Tilbury led 30-24 after three quarters.

Blenheim hosts Tilbury in Friday’s final.

Lancers to host final

The defending champion Ursuline Lancers will host the St. Patrick’s Fighting Irish in the LKSSAA ‘AAA’ senior girls’ volleyball final at 6 p.m. Friday in a rematch of last year’s title match.

Ursuline won its semifinal by forfeit Thursday over Northern, while St. Patrick’s swept Chatham-Kent 26-24, 25-15, 25-23.

Ursuline will visit St. Patrick’s in the ‘AAA’ junior final at 5 p.m.

The Blenheim Bobcats will host the Lambton-Kent Cardinals in the ‘A’ senior final at 5 p.m. Friday.

Blenheim swept Ridgetown 25-11, 25-14, 25-17 in a semifinal Thursday, while Lambton-Kent beat Pain Court by forfeit.

Also Friday, the McGregor Panthers will visit the Lambton Central Lancers in the ‘AA’ senior final.

McGregor beat Wallaceburg 3-1 (25-5, 21-25, 25-11, 25-14) and Lambton Central swept Great Lakes 3-0 (25-10, 25-6, 25-18) in the semifinals Thursday.

Hawks shut out Cardinals

DRESDEN – Trent Amaro scored two goals and Brayden Bright added one as the Chatham-Kent Golden Hawks beat the Lambton-Kent Cardinals 3-0 in LKSSAA boys hockey Thursday.

The Cardinals are 6-4-0 in the South Division and the Golden Hawks are 5-4-0.

They’ll go their separate ways in the playoffs – the Cardinals to ‘A-AA’ and the Hawks to ‘AAA’.

Stobbs Division semifinals

The top four teams have advanced to the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Stobbs Division semifinals.

The first-place Essex 73’s will face the fourth-place Amherstburg Admirals, while the second-place Lakeshore Canadiens play the third-place Dresden Kings.

The matchups were finalized Thursday when the 73’s beat the Petrolia Flyers 4-1 to complete a four-game sweep of their quarter-final.

Cyclones choose coaches

The Chatham-Kent ‘AAA’ Cyclones have chosen their head coaches for the 2019-20 hockey season.

They are: Mike Wright, minor atom; Tim Verbeek, major atom; Rocky Gaudrault, minor peewee; Steve Laforet, major peewee; Jeff Stonehouse, minor bantam; D.J. DeGelas, major bantam; and Dan Gardiner, minor midget.
