Chatham Youth Soccer axes season
The Chatham Youth Soccer Association has cancelled all activities for the 2020 season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Players can receive a full refund for this year’s registration or transfer the fees to the 2021 season. Refunds will start to be mailed on approximately June 1.
Email email@example.com by May 26 to request a fee transfer to 2021, and include each player’s full name, gender and birth date.
If COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, the CYSA may consider a late summer or fall season for senior age groups.
All competitive leagues are suspended until Ontario Soccer and each league’s governing body lift their COVID-19 suspensions, according to a message on the CYSA website.
“Should there be a competitive season, or part thereof after the COVID-19 lockout, we will consider the feasibility of actively participating,” said the message.
Dittmer moves up to Jr. ‘A’ Royals
Defenceman Bryar Dittmer of Chatham is leaving the Sarnia Legionnaires after one season to play for the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Markham Royals.
The five-foot-nine, 160-pound Dittmer had two goals and six assists in 35 games with the Legionnaires.
“(He’s) a defenceman that can skate well and move well and can move pucks up the ice real well,” Royals head coach and general manager Mike Galati said. “A total all-around type of defenceman and … a kid that has good character as well.”
Dittmer, who’ll turn 19 in September, is a Chatham-Kent ‘AAA’ Cyclones and Lambton ‘AAA’ Jr. Sting alumnus. He joined the Legionnaires after playing junior ‘B’ in 2018-19 with the Brockville Tikis.
“I think his main goal is to get an NCAA deal somewhere and he feels playing junior ‘A’ gives him the best opportunity to do that,” Galati said.
Jamieson Junior Golf Tour will play
The Jamieson Junior Golf Tour plans to play this season now that Ontario courses are allowed to open.
The 10-event tour’s original schedule was slated to begin June 29 at Willow Ridge. Maple City Country Club is on the calendar for July 27, but the tour’s website warns “there may be substantial changes to the schedule.”
The registration deadline for exempt returning golfers and newcomers is May 26.
