Armstrongs win Canadian medals
Owner and head instructor Thomas Armstrong of Chatham’s Armstrong Martial Arts Academy won two bronze medals at the Canadian Jiu-Jitsu National Championships last Saturday in Ottawa.
He won bronze in his weight class and in the absolute (no weight class) brown/black belt division.
Gracie Armstrong won silver in her children’s division. Isabelle Armstrong also competed in a children’s division.
Corrente earns first victory
Starting pitcher Richard Corrente of Chatham earned his first win of the season as the Welland Jackfish beat the Guelph Royals 3-2 in the Intercounty Baseball League on Tuesday in Guelph.
Corrente (1-0) allowed two runs – one earned – in seven innings. He struck out five and walked two.
Corrente has 10 strikeouts in 17.1 innings in four games, including two starts.
He’s in his fifth season in the league.
Storm on three-game skid
The Chatham Storm will host London English ‘B’ at 8 p.m. Friday at Keil Drive in the Western Ontario Soccer League’s Second Division.
The Storm (1-5-0) are on a three-game losing streak.
Derek Vannieuwenhuyze and Mitchell Benn scored in a 3-2 home loss to the St. Columban Celtics last Friday.
