Winless weekend for Red Devils
The Wallaceburg Red Devils are below .500 in the Ontario Jr. ‘B’ Lacrosse League after going winless in two home games on the weekend.
The Red Devils (2-3-1) lost to the Hamilton Bengals 16-4 on Sunday and tied the Niagara Thunderhawks 7-7 on Saturday at the Ken Houston Memorial Agricultural Centre in Dresden.
On Sunday, Tyler Davis scored two goals, Cam Bechard had a goal and two assists, and Landon Allaer also scored before a crowd of 143.
Cecil Jacobs gave up 12 goals on 58 shots and C.J. Gibson allowed four on 11 shots.
On Saturday, Davis had two goals and three assists for the Red Devils, who led 7-5 until the Thunderhawks scored two goals 24 seconds apart in the final minute of regulation.
Allaer also scored two. Bechard, Aaron Underwood and Tanner Cole added one apiece.
Jacobs made 55 saves.
The Red Devils will visit the London Blue Devils on Thursday, the Guelph Regals on Saturday and the Point Edward Pacers on Sunday.
Vanroboys wins Cup championship
Lucas Vanroboys of Thamesville helped the Prince George Spruce Kings win the Doyle Cup as Pacific region junior ‘A’ hockey champions in six games.
Vanroboys scored a tying goal in a 4-2 win over the Brooks Bandits on Saturday in Game 6 in Prince George, B.C.
He had an assist in a 4-1 win in Game 5 last Thursday.
Both teams move on to the National Junior A Championship on May 11-19 in Brooks, Alta.
Goure wins bronze at Gold Cup
Deni Goure of Grande Pointe won bronze with Team Alliance at the OHL Gold Cup in Kitchener.
The Owen Sound Attack first-round draft pick scored the winning goal in an 8-2 victory over Team OMHA White in the bronze-medal game Sunday.
He also had an assist Saturday in a 3-1 win over Team OMHA Black in the round-robin finale.
Goure finished with two goals and one assist in four games at the showcase tournament for the best under-16 players in Ontario.
Six winners at track meet
Six local athletes won events at the Kettle Creek Invitational track and field meet Saturday in St. Thomas.
Aiden Blain of CKSS won the midget boys’ 100-metre hurdles (15.32 seconds) and 300-metre hurdles (45.03 seconds).
Gabe St. Pierre of CKSS won the midget boys’ high jump (1.60 metres) and long jump (5.86 metres).
Payton Sabourin of CKSS won the senior girls’ 100 metres (12.68 seconds) and 400-metre hurdles (1:06.32).
Emma Pegg of CKSS won the junior girls’ 800 metres in a meet record 2:14.27. Camille Blain of CKSS won the senior girls’ 100-metre hurdles (15.88 seconds). Kyra Vellinga of Chatham Christian won the junior girls’ 300-metre hurdles (47.72 seconds).
Tartans’ Isaac scores twice
Kaitlyn Isaac scored two goals for the Wallaceburg Tartans in a 3-2 loss to the Northern Vikings in LKSSAA senior girls’ soccer Monday in Sarnia.
Aliyah Greaves had a hat trick for the Vikings.
Pain Court beat Tilbury 4-0 and McGregor lost to Lambton Central 2-0.
In the senior boys’ league, Lambton Central shut out McGregor 2-0 and North Lambton edged Blenheim 3-2.
Dawson, Nationals force Game 7
London Nationals captain Kyle Dawson, a former Dresden King, has four goals and two assists in six games in the Sutherland Cup final.
Dawson had an assist Sunday in a 5-1 win over the Waterloo Siskins in Game 6 after scoring Saturday in a 5-3 loss in Game 5.
The Ontario Hockey Association junior B champion will be decided Wednesday when Game 7 is played in London.
Durston, Bandits reach East final
Jordan Durston of Wallaceburg had one assist in the Buffalo Bandits’ 13-6 win over the New England Black Wolves in an East Division semifinal Saturday in the National Lacrosse League in Buffalo, N.Y.
The Bandits will host either the Georgia Swarm or Toronto Rock in the East final this Saturday.
Durston was the Bandits’ fifth-leading scorer in the regular season with 47 points in 18 games.
