Bobcats sweep hoops twinbill
Tyler Warwick scored 16 points and Preston Allen had nine in the Blenheim Bobcats’ 56-18 win over the Tilbury Titans in LKSSAA Tier 2 senior boys’ basketball Thursday in Blenheim.
The Bobcats (3-0) led 25-3, 39-6 and 50-8 at the quarters.
Hunter Marchand scored six for the Titans (2-2) and Matt Friesen added five.
At Dresden, Carter Law scored 12 points for the Lambton-Kent Cardinals (2-2) in a 41-35 comeback win over the North Lambton Eagles.
Brady Grubb and Carter Covemaeker each added nine for the Cardinals, who trailed 20-13 at halftime and 26-23 after three quarters.
At Chatham Christian, the Flames (0-3) lost to St. Francois-Xavier 43-32.
In Tier 2 junior, the Bobcats beat the Titans 39-32 as Blake Turner scored 13 points, Turner Lessard added eight and Sean Roberts had six.
Day top scorer in Tartans’ loss
Rain Day scored a game-high 28 points for the Wallaceburg Tartans (0-4) in a 71-33 loss to the St. Patrick’s Fighting Irish in LKSSAA Tier 1 senior boys’ basketball Thursday at Wallaceburg.
Also, Northern beat McGregor 62-18 and Ursuline defeated Great Lakes 68-43.
In Tier 1 junior, Ethan LaBlance scored 21 points, Keagan Huber had 15 and Ashton Vink added 11 in the Tartans’ 60-38 win over the Irish.
Northern beat McGregor 75-41, Great Lakes downed Ursuline 63-50 and Chatham-Kent clipped Lambton Central 69-26.
Flames host volleyball tourneys
The Flames will host two Chatham Christian Optimist Classic girls’ volleyball tournaments this weekend.
The seniors play Friday starting at 3:30 p.m. The juniors play Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
The senior tournament also includes Ridgetown, Wallaceburg, McGregor and Blenheim, as well as Windsor Maranatha, Providence and Rehoboth.
The junior tournament also includes McGregor, Wallaceburg, Tilbury, Blenheim, Chatham-Kent, Ursuline and Great Lakes.
Ursuline at U of W tournament
The Ursuline Lancers will play this weekend in the 63rd annual University of Windsor High School Boys Basketball Christmas Tournament.
Ursuline will tip off against Windsor St. Joseph’s in the first round at 4 p.m. Friday at the St. Denis Centre.
The eight-team tournament wraps up Saturday.
Four Pool Sharks finish in first
Cameron Schinkelshoek of the Chatham Y Pool Sharks won two events and Quinn Matteis, Hannah Thompson and Madeleine Tran won one apiece at the Border City International swim meet last weekend in Windsor.
Schinkelshoek was first in the 400-metre freestyle (4:45.68) and 400 individual medley (5:31.76) for 12-year-old boys, second in the 100 and 200 freestyle, 200 IM, 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke, and third in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, 100 butterfly and 1,500 freestyle.
Matteis was first in the 800 freestyle (8:28.57) and second in the 400 IM for 15-year-old boys.
Thompson won the 400 freestyle (4:43.42) and was second in the 200 butterfly and 200 freestyle for 12-year-old girls, and second in the 13-and-under 1,500 freestyle.
Tran won the 15-year-old girls’ 800 freestyle (9:42.76). Anderson Thiel and Caleb VanDooren each had one top-three result.
Eric Broeders, Rhyan Corbett, Averie Gobert, Ethan Gobert, Chloe Jacques, Lexie Martin, Payton Rinas and Gavin Schinkelshoek had top-eight results.
