PRETZER: To hell with Harry, Meghan and all of the monarchy

The bottom line is, this nation would be better off not bending over backwards to honour this family.

To be frank, I have had enough of this man, his wife, their relatives and the endless fawning over them for nothing. Screw the royal family. File photo

Two people from across the pond who are famous for doing nothing decided to toughen up a bit and look for a new home and real jobs.

No, I am not speaking about the run-of-the-mill reality star all too common in pop culture in the United Kingdom or BOJO the Prime Minister. If you have been living under a rock or are immune to the breathless and superfluous coverage from Canadian media that drowns out attention for serious issues, Prince Harry and his wife, former American actress Meghan Markle, decided to step back from their royal duties last week in order to become financially independent and divide their time between Europe and this nation.

This was something akin to the Kennedy assassination, the 9/11 attacks, various natural disasters or some of the greatest moments in the history of man like the moon landing and the abolition of slavery for twits who think it matters. The ghoulish British tabloids referred to the decision of two independent and free-thinking adults as a “bombshell” and, in Canada, a poll found a majority of those recently surveyed by Dart and Maru/Blue Voice Canada would be totally fine with Prince Harry being appointed as the next governor general of the country.

In what world does it make sense for a non-Canadian to be the nation’s representative for the figurehead head of state that is the Queen? As I write this, there have been no developments, but the idea sickens me.

The bottom line is, this nation would be better off not bending over backwards to honour this family that is wealthy for no reason, awash with controversy and whose only contribution to Canada has been to keep the nation obsessed with the past and unable to form identity while fawning over a house built on inbreeding.

I can sort of understand the value as a living cultural symbol and a link to earlier history, but, when proponents of this group are using similar logic that could be used to defend the outdated and horrifying human zoo practice, maybe they are not on the correct side of mankind.

Prince Andrew has well-documented links to late billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. He has been photographed in the one-time friend of politicians and celebrities’ home and once stood alongside a woman who has alleged he has done some of the most perverse and immoral acts one can do to a person without their consent to her. He is also alleged to have used the n-word and recently stated he did not regret his friendship with Epstein in a brutal televised interview that many analysts said was a disaster for the family and Andrew himself.

In the age we live in, you would think the Canadian military would have some integrity and strip this man of his honourary titles that he holds here, but, nope, that is not going to happen. As was reported last year, officials with the Department of National Defence said he would stay on because it was “custom” for the Duke of York to be a part of various ceremonies the same as other royals have done in prior decades.

Does a man like that absolutely need to be involved with a group that is supposed to “stand on guard for thee”?

Harry and the rest are not much better. Our possible future leader once called someone a raghead in what he apparently thought was a moment with no malice intended, Charles cheated on a woman who should not have gone near him in a thousand years and Queen Elizabeth only began paying taxes in the 1990s and invited tyrants from the Middle East who should be in prison to her Diamond Jubilee celebration in 2012.

There is also the matter of her offshore accounts in shady tax havens, but that is for another column.

This country and the rest of the world does not need these people for anything. They should stop being supported by Canada, the U.K. government, breathless tabloids and airheads, dolts and dopes all over.

Grow up, get out of public life and get real experience like the rest of us.

Where is a dramatic revolution when you need one? The Sex Pistols were utterly right and ahead of their time.
