Woman charged with careless driving after crash on Monday

A 21-year-old Thamesville woman is facing a careless drive charge after she lost control of the vehicle she was driving and struck a hydro pole on Riverview Line, west of Dillon Road, just before 11 a.m. Monday.

Chatham-Kent police reported the woman was taken to hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000.

Motorcycle crash claims life of Highgate man

The Chatham-Kent police traffic unit is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle that claimed the life of a 48-year-old Highgate man.

Emergency crews responded just after 8 p.m. Saturday to the crash in the area of Bury Road and Cleeves Line in Orford Township.

Police said the driver of the motorcycle died as a result of the collision.

Police offered their deepest condolences to family and friends.

Obstructing police

A 33-year-old Chatham man landed in custody after giving a false name to Chatham-Kent police.

The accused, who was wanted by St. Thomas police, was seen riding his bicycle on Fourth Street in Chatham on Sunday night.

Police said an officer stopped the man and went to place him under arrest after he falsely identified himself.

During the arrest, the accused resisted by pushing the officer and then fleeing on foot before being taken into custody a short distance away, police said.

The accused was charged with obstructing police and assaulting a peace officer. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Man accused of smashing vehicle windows

A 49-year-old Chatham man is facing a mischief charge after Chatham-Kent police responded to a complaint on Wellington Street in Chatham Saturday morning.

Police said through investigation, the accused was identified for being allegedly responsible for smashing windows in a vehicle.

The accused was arrested and taken into custody pending a bail hearing, police said.

Crash involves E-bike

A 71-year-old Chatham man suffered minor injuries while riding his E-bike after being involved in a collision with a vehicle on Victoria Avenue and Selkirk Street in Chatham around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Chatham-Kent police said a 41-year-old Chatham woman was charged with making a turn not in safety.

Total damage was estimated at $7,000.

Chatham man found with ammo; stolen shoes

A 33-year-old Chatham man was taken into custody after being found with five shotgun shells and stolen shoes.

Chatham-Kent police said the accused, wanted for breaching his probation order, was located in a parking lot on Thames Street in Chatham on Sunday night.

During a search while he was being arrested, the accused was allegedly found with four live 12-gauge shotgun shells and the investigation also revealed he was reportedly wearing shoes stolen from a vehicle over the weekend.

This resulted in the accused being charged with being in possession of ammunition contrary to a prohibition order and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

Domestic violence

Chatham-Kent police caught up to a 44-year-old Chatham man early Monday who was wanted in connection with domestic violence.

Police said the man has been charged with domestic-related offences and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
