A record-high eight COVID-19 patients, including three in critical care, were still hospitalized Wednesday at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.
Six are Chatham-Kent residents and two are non-residents.
The non-residents were not among the patients transferred to the Chatham hospital recently from Windsor Regional Hospital and Erie Shores HealthCare in Leamington.
Another 11 potential COVID-19 patients in the Chatham hospital were waiting for swab results.
None of the hospital’s six patients on ventilators had COVID-19.
Last week, the health alliance began postponing indefinitely all elective and non-urgent surgeries and procedures, not including cancer surgeries and procedures, in order to meet its rising critical-care needs.
The Chatham-Kent public health unit reported 12 new cases Wednesday and 20 Tuesday as the region’s cumulative total climbed to 939.
There were 119 active cases after the total fell by 13 Wednesday.
