One dead after collision on Highway 40

Chatham-Kent OPP are investigating a two-vehicle collision that left one person dead on Tuesday afternoon just north of Wallaceburg.

At around 1:30 p.m., emergency officials responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 40 at Whitebread Line.

A southbound tractor-trailer collided with an eastbound motor vehicle, according to the OPP.

Both drivers were transported to the hospital, one of the drivers has succumbed to their injuries.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

OPP Traffic Collision Investigators are scene investigating the collision.

Officials estimated that Highway 40 between Whitebread Line and Dufferin Avenue would be closed for approximately six hours. Motorists have been told to find alternative routes during the closure.
