A Chatham-Kent-based business is taking its brand to the next level after representing Canada at an international Shopify event.

Elizabeth Suni, owner of Wooly Doodle, was one of four businesses invited to attend Shopify headquarters in Ottawa last fall.

“It was a wonderful opportunity to be one of four Shopify merchants chosen to be part of two days worth of focus groups and workshops,” Suni said in a media release on Wednesday. “The workshops were focused on sharing our experiences as merchants with their team to help improve their offerings.”

Wooly Doodle is a clothing store geared to babies, toddlers, young children and adults. Products are exclusively made in Canada out of sustainably sourced fabrics.

Suni sat beside three New York-based business owners to discuss their experiences as merchants.

She called the panel a “wonderful opportunity” to share her story with the company that is helping her online and point-of-sale systems.

Shopify, which provides technology to online retailers, recently announced it is expanding its workforce with another 1,000 employees in Vancouver.

“There was over 200 team members in the room who were engaged and interested in our thoughts and feedback,” Suni said. “The entire event was inspiring.”

Taylor Hughes, Chatham-Kent’s economic development officer, credited Wooly Doodle for its drive to succeed.

“In a little over a year, Wooly Doodle has seen amazing growth, so much so that Elizabeth left her full-time job, launched several exclusive collections, and has added their first brick-and-mortar retail space,” he said in the release.

“The entire team at Wooly Doodle is raising the bar for technology and traditional business across Chatham-Kent and I don’t doubt that the best is yet to come.”
