A 57-year-old Chatham man is facing charges after being found hiding in a bedroom.

Chatham-Kent police were called to an apartment building in Chatham Thursday morning for a trespassing complaint.

Police learned the accused was visiting a woman he was currently bound by a court order not to communicate with.

Police said the accused was found hiding in a bedroom and arrested.

While being searched during the arrest, police said he was found with suspected methamphetamine.

The accused was charged with drug possession and two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions. He also received a July 24 court date, police said.

A 45-year-old Chatham woman was also arrested and charged for being party to a criminal offence, and later released with an Aug. 5 court date, police said.

Refusing to stop for police

A 48-year-old Raleigh Township man is facing several charges after refusing to stop for Chatham-Kent police.

Police said an officer saw the accused Thursday night make no attempt to obey the stop sign at the intersection of Harvey and Queen streets in Chatham.

Police said the accused went through two other stop signs, despite officers attempting to pull the vehicle over.

The accused also failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Richmond and Lacroix streets, police said.

The driver was arrested a short time later after the vehicle was found by police on Keil Drive.

The accused was found to be in possession of a small glass vial of suspected methamphetamine while being searched during the arrest, police said.

The man was charged with flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and drug possession, police said.

He was released with an Aug. 6 court date.

Man charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm

A 26-year-old Raleigh Township man is facing charges in connection to a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Baldoon Road in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said an officer on scene believed the accused was driving his vehicle while under the influence of drugs, resulting in his arrest.

The man was taken to police headquarters for a drug recognition evaluation test, police said.

The accused was charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm due to the other driver sustaining injuries, police said.

He was released with a June 5 court date.

Total damage was estimated at $10,000 police said.

Bike, ATV stolen in separate thefts

Chatham-Kent police are investigating two separate thefts.

Police responded to the theft of a blue Giant bike, valued at approximately $500, stolen from the bike mount of a vehicle while the owner was shopping at Sobeys in Chatham early Thursday evening.

The bicycle had a battery-powered front white light, a rear red light and a shock-absorbent seat, police said.

Police are also looking for information regarding a break and enter into a barn on Whitebread Line near Wallaceburg.

Police said a 2013 red Polaris Sportsman 800 ATV with a two-inch trailer hitch, valued at $5,000, was stolen some time overnight.
