A 32-year-old man facing an attempted murder charge – after allegedly failing to remain at a crash scene where a man was struck by a vehicle – had his bail matter delayed until Tuesday.

Andrew Herdman made a brief in-person appearance in a Chatham bail court on Friday, but his planned surety wasn’t in attendance.

His defence lawyer, Sharon Murphy, asked that the case be put over.

There is a publication ban in place concerning evidence heard during bail court.

According to previously published reports, Chatham-Kent police responded to a call on Harvey Street in Chatham shortly before 4 a.m. on Sept. 21.

Police said through investigation, it was learned the suspect and the victim, who has not been named, were known to each other.

Police added that evidence led investigators to allege this was an intentional act.

The victim was taken to a Windsor hospital in serious, but stable, condition, police added.
