A 32-year-old man facing an attempted murder charge after reportedly failing to remain at a crash scene will have to wait longer to find out if he’ll be released on bail.

Andrew Herdman made a brief appearance in a Chatham bail court Tuesday, where the court was told his defence lawyer is still working on a bail plan for him.

A scheduled bail hearing last Friday was delayed until Tuesday when Herdman’s planned surety didn’t attend court. The matter returns to bail court on Thursday.

There is a publication ban in place concerning evidence heard during bail court.

According to previously published reports, Chatham-Kent police responded to a call on Harvey Street in Chatham shortly before 4 a.m. on Sept. 21.

Police allege the suspect and the victim, who has not been named, were known to each other.

Police added that evidence led investigators to allege this was an intentional act.

The victim was taken to a Windsor hospital in serious, but stable, condition, police added.
