Name: Henry Svec
Occupation: Small business owner, former cherry farm owner
Political experience: Ran as school board trustee – not elected
Svec is running for council in Ward 2 South Kent, because “I have lived in the community with my family and have enjoyed all it has to offer.”
Noting that “many volunteers helped my children to achieve in sports and also countless others volunteer their time at churches, community groups or other charities,” he believes the position of councillor should be volunteer.
Svec said salaries paid to councillors should be used to fund start-up businesses or small existing businesses. He proposes a “Council Micro – New Venture Fund” that would provide zero-interest loans of up to $10,000 to be repaid over 5 years.
Svec said council has spent millions on scrap railroad steel with no value and invests in a wind farm when they know nothing of such investments.
“I will speak out for the residents of Ward 2 and protect their interests,” he said.
