A London man is dead after being pulled from the water just off the main beach in Port Stanley.
The 48-year-old man was standing with family members in waist-to-chest-deep water about 75 metres offshore just after 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, police said.
Witnesses indicated the man appeared to have some type of medical distress, and the Port Stanley Beach Patrol quickly responded with its rescue boat.
The man was able to pull himself into the rescue boat with the help of lifeguards but then collapsed, police said.
Rescue workers performed CPR and the man was transported by air ambulance to London Health Sciences Centre, where he was pronounced dead.
The name of the man who died has not been released, and police are still investigating the incident.
A post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death has yet to be scheduled.
