It's slammer time

 

Police responding to a citizen's report of a possible drunk driver nabbed two intoxicated fellows Saturday evening.

Police pulled a Hyundai Accent over after a concerned citizen reported a possible impaired driver in the area of a Thamesville variety store at about 10:30 p.m.

Breath samples from the driver, a Highgate area man, revealed he was driving with almost three times the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

While the officer was dealing with the driver, the passenger exited the vehicle and refused to stay in the car while waiting for a cab.

Police said the 28-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody for his own safety and charged with being intoxicated in a public place.

The 54-year-old driver was charged with impaired driving.

Single vehicle crash

A 31-year-old Raleigh man faces careless driving charges after a crash Saturday night.

Police said the crash, which occurred shortly before 10 p.m., happened on River View Line.

The man lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree causing $25,000 in damages.

No injuries were reported.

Crash under investigation

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that happened shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday.

Police said two cars, one driven by a 57-year-old woman, the other by a 21-year-old woman, crashed on Grand Avenue West.

There were no serious injuries but damage to the vehicles is estimated to be about $20,000.

Theft under charges

A 47-year-old man faces charges of theft and possession after an incident Saturday.

Police said they were called to investigate a report of a theft from the St. Clair Street Shopper's Drug Mart at about 8 p.m.

Police determined a Chatham man had taken items from the store, valued at $13, without paying and charged him.

Charges laid after crash

A two vehicle crash in Wheatley resulted in charges.

Chatham-Kent police said the collision, which occurred at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday caused an estimated $3,000 in damages.

Neither driver was injured, however one was charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

Lucky escape

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a single vehicle crash.

Police responded to a call on Croydon Street in Chatham shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday.

A 16-year-old driving a 2005 Chevrolet pick-up lost control and rolled the truck onto it's side.

No injuries were reported for the driver or passengers in the vehicle.

Focused search develops results

A 26-year-old man faces charges after swiping a camera.

Chatham-Kent police said a theft was reported Friday afternoon and a Chatham man provided police with a description of a suspect and his whereabouts.

Police located a Sheldon Avenue man with a stolen camera and charged him with theft and possession of stolen property.

The camera was returned to the owner.

Police investigate ransacked home

Chatham-Kent police are investigating an over night break and enter on Red Maple Mile in Chatham.

Police said sometime Thursday night someone gained entry to the home by forcing open a side garage door.

Rooms in the home were ransacked and a small amount of money from various countries was stolen.

Police estimate the damage to the door at $200 but did not release the value of the currency.
