A proposed riding name change will give Dave Van Kesteren bragging rights in Ottawa.
There is a proposal to change the MP's riding name from Chatham-Kent Essex to Chatham-Kent-Leamington.
The change would add both Pelee Island and Middle Island to the riding making it the most southerly riding in all of Canada.
Van Kesteren said Tuesday he's in favour of the change, which also calls for a small portion of land northeast of Chatham to be included in the riding.
The MP said he's pleased to see his amendment to the Federal Boundaries Commission for Ontario for the renaming of the riding included in the tabled report to the House of Commons.
"Residents have overwhelmingly supported this change,'' he said. "They contacted me directly and I know many others shared their support with the commission. We are now one step closer to giving Leamington the recognition it deserves.''
The new boundaries are scheduled to be in place for the next general election.
