Two Cobras teams reach semifinals

The Kent Minor Atom and Minor Peewee 'AA' Cobras were semifinalists at the Chatham Regional International Silver Stick Tournament on the weekend.

The Cobras' five other teams failed to make the playoffs.

The seven division champions qualified for the International Silver Stick finals Jan. 10-13. The 'AA' winners go to Newmarket, while the AE winners go to Pelham.

MINOR ATOMS: The Cobras lost 4-1 to the Belle River Jr. Canadiens in Sunday's semifinals.

In pool play, the Cobras lost 3-2 to the Windsor Jr. Spitfires and 6-0 to the TNT Tornados before beating the Centre Wellington Fusion 1-0.

ATOM AE'S: The Cobras were 0-2-1 at the Silver Stick qualifier.

Julian Verleye scored, Caleb Stoddart played well in net and Josh Balan was the Cobras' MVP in a 1-1 tie with the Belle River Jr. Canadiens in the opener.

Netminder Cameron Lynds was the MVP in a 2-0 loss to the West London Hawks.

Simon Coelho scored and Cameron Duquette was the MVP in a 2-1 loss to the Grimsby Peach Kings.

MINOR PEEWEES: Ryen Stevens scored and Tristan Clark made 11 saves in a 3-1 semifinal loss Sunday to the eventual champion Centre Wellington Fusion at Thames Campus Arena.

The Cobras were 2-1-0 in their pool, starting with a 6-1 win over the North London Nationals.

Nolan Bernier had two goals and one assist, Stevens also scored twice, Trent Amaro added a goal and an assist, and Dylan Schives had one goal. Clark made 17 saves.

Amaro scored on a penalty shot in a 2-1 loss to the TNT Tornados.

Stevens had two more goals and one assist in a 4-2 win over the Vaughan Rangers. Alex Vanderkaden had one goal and one assist, Kyle Swis also scored and Clark made 27 saves.

PEEWEE AE'S: The Cobras lost 3-1 to Belle River before beating Centre Wellington 4-3 and Erie North Shore 2-1 at the Silver Stick qualifier.

MINOR BANTAMS: The Cobras went 1-2-0 in pool play at the Silver Stick qualifier.

Kadin Ritchie and Griffin Peltier scored in a 3-2 loss to the Toronto Wolverines in the opener.

Ritchie scored two more goals in a 4-3 win over the Ancaster Avalanche. Kyle Hachey and Nick Tetreault were the other marksmen.

The Cobras also lost 3-0 to the Vaughan Rangers.

BANTAM AE'S: The Cobras were 1-1-1 at the Silver Stick qualifier.

Braydon Hoskins scored one goal and set up Cam Callaghan for the other in a 4-2 loss to the Windsor Jr. Spitfires in the opener.

Zach Kelly scored twice in a 5-1 win over the Tecumseh Eagles. Carter Bossy, Evan Wolsey and Callaghan also scored and Mitchell Benn had two assists.

Hoskins had a goal and an assist in a 2-2 tie with the North London Nationals. Callaghan also scored.

MINOR MIDGETS: The Cobras lost 4-1 to LaSalle, beat North London 3-1 and lost to Hillcrest 6-2 at the Silver Stick qualifier.

SELECT 7'S: Logan Houle and Aidan Wheeler each scored twice in the Cobras' 7-0 win over the Southpoint Capitals on Sunday.

Colin Branquet, Colton Graham and Ryan Brophy also scored. Carson Nogueira and Ryder Polowick split the goaltending.

Andrew Goulet scored Friday in a 7-1 loss to the Windsor Jr. Spitfires.

NOVICES: Ryan Gagner had two goals and one assist Sunday in the Cobras' 6-1 win over the Tecumseh Eagles in Tilbury.

Kelton Jack added one goal and one assist. Hunter Myers, Colin Holmes and Cameron Graham also scored and Jackson Cook was in net.

On Saturday, Gagner had a hat trick and one assist in a 9-8 loss to the Eagles in Tecumseh. Holmes added two goals and one assist.

Graham and Owen Reeve each had one goal and one assist, Bobby McKinlay also scored and Natalie Bray had three assists.

On Wednesday, Holmes scored twice in a 5-4 road loss to the Windsor Jr. Spitfires. Gagner had a goal and an assist, and Graham also scored.

MAJOR ATOMS: Riley Drummond scored twice in the Cobras' 2-2 tie at Essex on Sunday.

Dakota Vangoethem had a hat trick and one assist Saturday in a 6-1 win in Belle River.

Colton Burniston, Matt Stephenson and Jared Delaey each added one goal and one assist.

MAJOR PEEWEES: Kyle Toulouse scored twice Saturday in the Cobras' 7-5 loss in Belle River.

Seth Henderson had one goal and three assists, Caleb Havens added a goal and two helpers, and Aiden Anjema also scored. Deryck Harvieux had two assists.

MAJOR BANTAMS: The Cobras went 0-3 on the weekend in the Bluewater Hockey League.

Jagger Schives and Connor Jamieson scored Sunday in a 4-2 loss in Windsor.

Justin Roets and Josh Hachey scored Saturday in a 5-3 loss in LaSalle. Patrick Matthew also scored.

The Cobras lost 4-0 in Tecumseh on Friday.

MAJOR MIDGETS: Curtis Lemieux's two goals led the Cobras to a 6-3 home win over the LaSalle Sabres on Sunday.

Drew Medd, Jay Piett, Bryce Broad and Noah Morris also scored. Brayden Seliga had four assists and Skylar DaCosta was the defensive star.

On Friday, Kevin Ritzer had a goal and an assist as the Cobras rallied to tie the Jr. Spitfires 4-4 in Windsor.

Medd, Broad and Tristen Allen also scored. Gavin Bradley was the defensive star.
